WAFER

Carbon and water cycles interactions during drought and their impact on WAter and ForEst Resources in the Mediterranean region

 Period: 2021 – 2023 (24 months)
Partners: The consortium is based on a close collaboration between 5 partners:

  • Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – Istituto di Ricerca per la Protezione Idrogeologica (CNR-IRPI)
  • University of Florence
  • University of Trento
  • University of Campania (Luigi Vanvitella)
  • CNR-ISAFOM

Description:

Italian mountainous basins provide essential water supply and ecosystem services, yet these environments are increasingly at risk of anthropogenic stressors and climate change. Future climate projections suggest a drier and warmer Mediterranean with serious consequences for water and forest ecosystems resources. The ultimate goal of WAFER is to unravel the interactions between carbon and water cycles during drought and to quantify their impact on water and forest resources.
