Biography

Christian Massari was born in Cascia (Perugia), Italy, in 1981. He received the M.S. degree in environmental engineering and the Ph.D. degree in hydraulic engineering, both with excellence, from the University of Perugia (Perugia), Italy, in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

In support of his Ph.D. he received fellowships to carry out research at The Department of Hydrology and Water Resources of the University of Arizona, Tucson (United States), where he has worked in the field of hydraulic groundwater and Hydraulic Tomographic techniques in the research group of Professor Jim Yeh..

From November 2011 to February 2013 Christian Massari has been research fellow at the “Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile ed Ambientale” of the University of Perugia – Italy, where he has worked in the development of data fusion techniques for the diagnosis of pressurized pipe systems in the research group of Professor Bruno Brunone.

From March 2013 to December 2016 he carried out research activities as a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Institute of Geo-Hydrological Protection (IRPI) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Perugia (Italy).

In January 2017 Christian Massari has obtained the research permanent position at the Research Institute of Geo-Hydrological Protection (IRPI) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Perugia (Italy).

He has been author and co-author of 36 (+4 submitted) journal referred papers (352 citations, H-index=11 with SCOPUS; 489 citations, H-index=13 with SCHOLAR – May 2017) and 21 papers in peer-reviewed conference proceedings/book chapters and national journals. He has held +20 presentations at conference and workshops (2 as invited speaker) and serves as frequent reviewer for several international journals (see PUBLONS for details).

He actively participated to several research project in the frame of Italian and European programs (LIFE+, HORIZON2020), and funded by Space Agencies (ESA, EUMETSAT), in collaboration with Italian and international institutions. He is currently involved in the validation activities for the project “Satellite Application Facility on Support to Operational Hydrology and Water Management (H-SAF)” by EUMETSAT and the GPM (Global Precipitation Measurement) mission by NASA. He participated at the activities carried in the Early Adopter of the SMAP (Soil Moisture Active and Passive) mission program and in the project “Climate Change Initiative – Soil Moisture” by ESA. He is currently involved in “SMOS+rainfall” and projects by ESA and in projects for the operational use of satellite soil moisture data for flood and landslide mitigation funded by the Italian National Department of Civil Protection (DPC) and the Umbria Region Civil Protection Centre (CFD).

He is a Member of the Italian Hydrological Society, the Italian Group of Hydraulics (GII), and the European Geophysical Union (EGU).
